Kanheri Caves, Borivali National Park, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Kanheri caves lies in the heart of green lungs of Mumbai in Borivali or Sanjay Gandhi national park (SGNP). These are Buddhist caves comprising of 109 caves which is 7km inside of Borivali National Park main gates. The National park are closed on Mondays. Kanheri caves or Krishnagiri caves are 1st century old caves. Also these areas are highly leopard active zone. Drones are strictly prohibited due to Airforce area. Also these mountains are the source of Dahisar river and Kanheri river which flows through front of these caves is one of its tributary. Not advised to explore beyond caves limit and forest as it is highly leopard movement area.

Kanheri caves is not accessible from Yeoor Hills. But it shares the same forest and national park. One can see the satellite point from Yeoor and Kanheri caves is just beneath the satellite point.



Kanheri Caves Entry Ticket and Fees

Kanheri caves is inside Borivali national park. One has to take first the entry ticket to enter National park at the main gates.
Then either one can walk, cycle or take bus services or share taxis from the main gate to the Kanheri Caves gates which is around 7km from main National park gate.
There one has to take entry tickets again of Kanheri caves to enter the cave premises.

Timings are from 7:30in morning to 5:00 in evening.

MONDAYS NATIONAL PARK/KANHERI IS CLOSED
